Tear Sheet

This hand-knotted Afghan Balochi rug bursts with an all-over field of geometric star and cross motifs in a wonderfully eclectic mix of orange, yellow, teal, blue, red, cream, and soft gray — all set against a rich, deep plum-purple ground that gives the whole piece a real warmth and depth. The border frames things neatly with a small checkerboard stripe and a row of the same cross motifs in slightly smaller scale, and you can see from the photo that the pile has a lovely wooly texture with that slight irregularity you only get from something made entirely by hand in Afghanistan.
