Rows of blossoms and palmettes cover a gold field inside a dark brown floral border. The pattern runs across the whole field, so it looks balanced from any angle. It is a bohemian transitional 10x16 area rug in gold and brown.
This handmade wool rug is one of a kind, hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool in a mix of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, give the gold field and the brown border their depth, with green and tan used for the detail work. The gold field may show an abrash, a gentle change of shade within one color. It is normal in handmade rugs, because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. The curves of the flowers and vines are drawn knot by knot, which keeps their outlines sharp. After knotting, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried, which gives this 10x16 rug its natural sheen. The finished pile is dense and even, soft to walk on, and resilient enough to recover from furniture and daily use. Because the pile lies in one direction, the gold field looks a little deeper from one end of the rug and lighter from the other.
Use it as a large living room rug, under a dining table that seats eight, or in a great room. The warm gold and brown palette, with touches of green and tan, brings a boho chic, eclectic feel to a room and pairs well with leather, walnut, and brass. The floral pattern leans transitional and suits cottage and grandmillennial rooms too.
