Size Guide

Living Room

The living room rug sets the tone for the whole space. Choose a size that lets your seating gather around it: at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs should rest on the rug, so the room reads as one connected group. In open floor plans, a well-sized rug quietly marks out the sitting area from the rest of the room.

Tip: leave about 12 to 18 inches of bare floor between the rug and the walls. When in doubt, go one size larger.

All handmade rug sizes are approximate. Please check the exact size listed in the Product Details before you order. More help: Rug Size Guide.

Care Guide

A handmade rug is made to last for generations. A few simple habits keep it clean, soft and beautiful for years to come.

Everyday Care

Vacuum regularly so dust and grit do not settle deep into the pile.
Use suction only or a single beater bar on a low setting. Avoid strong rotating brushes.
Vacuum in the direction of the pile, and keep the vacuum off the fringe.
Shake out or lightly beat small rugs outdoors from time to time.

Spills & Stains

Act quickly. Blot spills right away with a clean white cloth. Never rub.
Work from the outside of the spot toward the center so it does not spread.
For spot cleaning, use cool water with a little mild, clear detergent, then blot with plain water.
Avoid harsh chemicals and bleach, which can damage or fade natural fibers.
Let the area air dry fully, and keep the rug away from excessive moisture.

Deep Cleaning

Handmade rugs are not machine washable.
Have your rug professionally cleaned every one to three years, or as needed for high-traffic rooms.
We offer Rug Cleaning and Sanitization and Rug Repair and Restoration. Call (201) 552-2733 or email Info@Arshs.com.

Placement & Rug Pads

Use a non-skid rug pad on smooth floors. It keeps the rug in place, adds cushion and helps it wear evenly.
Rotate the rug every six to twelve months so foot traffic and sunlight are spread evenly.
Limit long hours of direct sunlight to help keep the colors rich.
Place furniture cups or protectors under heavy pieces to prevent crushing the pile.

What Is Normal

New wool rugs shed loose fibers for the first few months. This slows down with regular vacuuming and is not a defect.
Never pull a loose yarn end. Trim it level with the pile using scissors.
Small variations in color (abrash) and in the weave are signs of a rug made by hand.
Fold lines from shipping relax within a few days once the rug lies flat.

Care can vary by material and construction. For more detail, read The Ultimate Care Guide, or contact us any time.

About this rug

Rows of stylized palmettes and medallions in ivory, navy and light blue line up across the brown field, framed by a blue border. Measuring 12'3'' x 17'9'', it is a 12x18 hand knotted Ziegler rug.

Ziegler rugs began in the 1880s, when a Manchester firm commissioned large, softly colored floral carpets in the Sultanabad region of Persia for European homes. Its brown field paired with a blue border gives it a crisp and rhythmic character. It is hand knotted in Pakistan with the Turkish double knot, using hand-spun wool with a long staple and high lanolin content. Stone-washing and sun-drying soften the pile and give it a natural sheen and a softly aged, antique look.

Choose it for a formal sitting room, a home library, a large home office or a den. Its rhythmic rows suit transitional, farmhouse and eclectic rooms.
